Working With Your Partner: Business Strategies for Successful Couples

working with your partner

Everyone says “hello” to my husband Jason, who also just happens to be my coworker. He’s had quite the journey through the working ranks, first as that guy who comes out before or after a major storm and trims trees high up in the air (no thank you, I like being on the ground),  an optimization coach, and now as a part of the Dreampro Team. Yes, that’s right, I work and live with my husband…and I still love him at the end of the day. We’re going to cover a lot of ground today and one of those topics is HOW the above is and stays true.

But before we dive right in, welcome! You’ve now entered into The Dreamer’s Lounge! I’m Ariel Schiffer, and I have made it my mission to take out the digital trash one bad course at a time. I am the creator of The Course Alchemist, Industrial-Organizational Psychologist, and Curriculum and course design expert.

This podcast is for entrepreneurs who are looking to elevate their digital product suite so their offers speak for themselves. Nothing is worse than being oversold into something that under-delivers just like an overpriced bottle of wine. So, if you’re ready to develop high-quality offers, bring in consistent revenue, and have a business with long-term results for you AND your clients, grab your drink and join us inside…

Sweet Business Nothings

Not for nothing, but I was mostly excited to have Jason here to get his perspective on the business and really share his feelings about it from when it started to how it’s going now. I’m not going to lie- hearing the fact that he’s proud of me was just a bonus.

I think that it’s really important to feel proud of your spouse, and communicate that, even if you’ve been together for a while. I don’t say that you should lie or constantly fish for compliments, but feeling seen and respected for your contributions in your career goes a long way in keeping the old spark of mutual admiration alive.

Jason shared that he was proud of how, no matter what, even if I’m scared, I dive in headfirst. And we’re both very proud of the culture we’ve cultivated within the inner workings of Dreampro- we strive to have an open and honest workplace, where everyone feels heard, seen, and respected.

Communication Saves the Day, Everytime: The Bottomline

Communication is probably Jason’s favorite part of business, maybe even life itself. That’s why he’s good at his job- he makes sure all our deliverables are on brand, both for us and the clients we work with. He literally makes sure that every. Single. Word. That we put out there has a purpose and strongly conveys the overall message.

It’s no wonder then, when we were running into slight challenges at work in regards to expectations and assumptions, he suggested the issue was a communication problem. Turns out I had to suck it up and get on the phone with clients and communicate, because while I love it, texting is the worst.

Communication is also how we’re able to have both a strong work and marital relationship. We speak openly about expectations and contexts that we’ll be working within, and we both try very hard to maintain good boundaries. A good banter session never hurts either.
