Remember Why You Started: To Help Your Clients Reach Their Full Potential

There you are out there, making courses and guiding clients…but do you even know why? Sometimes the best thing we can do as leaders in entrepreneurship, is take a step back and ask ourselves “why? Why are we doing this?” If we’re not creating with our clients from a place of intentionality, then we need to reevaluate our strategy; content for content’s sake serves no one, and I’m not here to waste anyone’s time, especially my own.

Are You Helping or Hindering Your Clients in the Long Run?
I need you to hear this above all else: If you purposely skip over the hard work that’s needed with your clients to save yourself an awkward interaction, you’re living on borrowed time. Because here’s the thing; if you can’t be honest with your client, then whatever you produce for them is already f*cked. And if you are in the business of sparing feelings then you’re not into true and necessary transformation.
I know so many creators who are afraid they’ll scare clients off if they inform them of all the foundational work that’s needed to get results. I’m talking work- unsexy, hard, fundamental work that needs to be done by both clients and you, in order to create a comprehensive and quality end result.
If you manage to only touch on the fun and sexy results and deliver what the client wants at the expense of what the client needs, ultimately whatever you end up producing won’t work. And then your client will be upset, and the very situation you’ve tried to avoid will come to pass anyway.
You’re Going to Have to Be Honest: The Bottomline
Instead of looking and advertising quick wins and instant gratification, you’re going to need to be upfront about the process. Strategizing is less flashy, and it’s less fun, but it’s VITAL to your ability to curate an end result that your client needs. What they need isn’t always going to look like what they think they want, and that’s why a good foundational basis can help you refine their true mission, even if they can’t see the forest for the trees.
This all comes down to communication, and being able to sit in some potential temporary awkwardness with the ultimate goal of real, transformative change. Remember you’re not here to give them what they want; if they were able to sustain their business off of that they wouldn’t have sought you out at all. You’re here to evaluate everything, and give them what they NEED. To identify that, you’re going to need a solid foundation of information, that while not always fun to gather, is an important step in the overall process.
