Erin’s expertise is helping clients build a LinkedIn strategy that organically attracts traffic to their business through profile optimization and injection with content and engagement strategies to help them reach their target audiences.

But before we dive right in, welcome! You’ve now entered into The Dreamer’s Lounge! I’m Ariel Schiffer, and I have made it my mission to take out the digital trash one bad course at a time. So, if you’re ready to develop high-quality offers, bring in consistent revenue, and have a business with long-term results for you AND your clients, grab your drink and join us inside…

So, let’s get into more about Erin and our conversation around hiring and LinkedIn.

Erin’s Story

We met about two years ago when I subcontracted Erin to help people that were coming to me for things like resume revamps and career coaching. We actually met on a Facebook group and the rest is history!

Erin had just left her corporate job in 2019 and was trying freelance. The universe aligned when she saw my post in the Facebook group and we began working together. She does career transition coaching on one side and LinkedIn marketing for small businesses on the other side. She also does hiring for teams, which is a new addition to her myriad of services.

The Power of LinkedIn & How it Functions

LinkedIn is really powerful and it functions completely differently than other platforms, like Instagram. Erin noted that LinkedIn is a huge undertaking in her business as the platform has a ton of moving pieces that go onto it. There are so many things to keep up on there!

For instance, LinkedIn News is a part of the platform that’s trending. “The Great Resignation” and “The Great Reshuffle” are topics that are prevalent there and there’s a lot of talk there about how employees are being trained remotely, since that is the current way of the world.

Erin also noted that LinkedIn is a great platform for people to identify you as an expert in your field. This is the perfect space to craft messages towards your audience. After all, one of the first things that pops up when you search someone’s name is their LinkedIn page. For that reason, not putting effort into your profile could cause someone to lose out on leads and interactions that are beneficial to them.

Erin helps people crack the code of what LinkedIn is and why they need to be on it. Especially for people transitioning from corporate to being a business owner, there are SO many other people that have gone down this same path. Being on LinkedIn and being able to connect with those people is helpful.

And being on LinkedIn can put you in front of the right audience to reach the people you want to in order to make sales to your dream clients.

Using Social Media Strategically

Erin is targeting different audiences in her business and she uses social media to do so. For instance, she uses Instagram to market to people about her LinkedIn services.

For career clients, on the other hand, she uses LinkedIn to reach her audience. She really goes by the method of not putting all her eggs in one basket, but also not putting every egg into a different basket.

She focuses her content on who she wants to connect with on LinkedIn. LinkedIn has evolved to really make sure that people who are becoming well known on the platform are receiving exposure.

There have been a lot of new features added to LinkedIn. For instance, they added a LinkedIn Newsletter. It’s an extension of your email marketing system. You will receive a notification when someone issues a newsletter and an email if someone subscribes to it. You can view the entire newsletter from the email, which makes it easy for people to consume your marketing content.

If you’re going to show up on one platform for your business, LinkedIn is the place to be for professionals. Plus, the platform allows you to see multiple things at once and choose what you want to click on, which is helpful to drive engagement and attention.

LinkedIn is truly remote networking at the end of the day, which is more important now than ever. Even hashtags are more concentrated on this platform, which is helpful in connecting in a meaningful way for your business.

Why LinkedIn for Hiring?

When you start a small business, it’s usually not in the cards to use a recruiter to find talent. But Erin uses LinkedIn for hiring for these companies to find someone that matches exactly what the company wants.

LinkedIn is a great platform for this because it shows the history and background of someone thanks to their profiles. LinkedIn Hiring has a great process and makes it easier to find someone that aligns with the values of the company she’s hiring for.

If you’re looking for someone in your business and hire based on skill and experience, LinkedIn is the place to be. On a LinkedIn job posting, people are forced to go into the profile of the business, which allows them to learn your business better and find a way to relate better before the interview even occurs.

Top Tips for Creating a LinkedIn Presence

Erin shared a few tips for people looking to build their LinkedIn presence. It can be intimidating to start, but these tricks will give you a jumpstart!:

  • Look Engaging and Like an Authority Figure on LinkedIn - use headshots that make you look ready to go - looking straight at the camera with confidence! These powerful pictures make a big difference
  • Have a Call to Action - people landed on your page, tell them what you want them to do! Change this often to reflect where you want to lead your audience.
  • Start Somewhere with Content - People want to know your story on LinkedIn, so make sure you are regularly sharing content and providing value. Don’t JUST focus on selling!
  • Look Out for Trends - Pay attention to your feed and see what people are engaging in to understand what’s working and what’s not. You will also want to think outside of the box in what you post to appeal to your audience.
