How I Grew My Business FAST Doing Things My Way

Feb 01, 2021

In this episode of The Dreamer’s Lounge Podcast, I’ll be giving you an inside look into the growth of my business. I started my business in 2019. For the first couple of months, I was not making any money. But after some slow starts, it started to take off. All through 2020, despite the hot mess that year was, I hit new goals every month. I set a goal to make $20K months by December 2020. And I hit that goal in July. So I wanted to share with you what all went into that and how you can grow your own business by doing it your way.

But before we dive right in, let me introduce myself in case this is your first visit. You’ve now entered into The Dreamer’s Lounge! I’m Ariel Schiffer, and I have made it my mission to take out the digital trash one bad course at a time. I am the creator of The Course Alchemist, Industrial Organizational Psychologist, and Curriculum and course design expert.

This podcast is for entrepreneurs who are looking to elevate their digital product suite so their offers speak for themselves. Nothing is worse than being oversold into something that under delivers just like an overpriced bottle of wine. So, if you’re ready to develop high quality offers, bring in consistent revenue, and have a business with long-term results for you AND your clients, grab your drink and join us inside…

I am excited to share more about my business decisions with you in the episode today. For more inspiration, be sure to listen to the entire episode on your favorite streaming platform.

How I determined my own way forward in my business.

I had an unwavering determination to my business right away. I learned everything I could and did a shit ton of research about others in the industry. While I learned a lot of helpful information, I found that when I implemented what others were saying, it didn’t always work for me. It didn’t feel right to do what everyone else was doing. I didn’t want to be just another coach or designer. I wanted to bring my own unique perspective. So pretty early on in my business, I decided that I was going to follow my own intuition. Of course, you learn things from others as you go along, but I didn’t want to just be a copy of all the same shit.

There’s a lot of “plug and play” business offers out there. People promise you success if you follow a certain template. It’s also easy to fall for what I call the “shiny object syndrome.” You see other people doing something successful in their business, and you think you need to adopt that new thing too. But I knew I didn’t want to have a “plug and play” business. And I didn’t want to be a second-rate version of someone else. I know for myself that the best things in my life have been the result of my own ideas and intuition. I hope knowing that encourages you that you can have your own success doing things your way.

How my own way manifested.

There are several ways following my own intuition manifested in my business:

  1. I pivoted several times before finding my zone of genius. It’s okay to shift and change. That’s how this process works!
  2. I did a lot of my sales through backend launching. I didn’t listen to the false idea that launching has to look a certain way.
  3. I spent the majority of my time and energy on current clients and referrals instead of on putting out new content constantly. I spent the most time with the people actually paying me instead of on free content.
  4. I created offers I was 100% obsessed with. I never create something for the sake of creation alone.
  5. I said no to people I didn’t want to work with. This saved me so much time and energy and freed me to work with my ideal clients.
  6. I unfollowed people doing similar things to me. This keeps me accountable to my own voice. I don’t want to just regurgitate information.

The more rules I broke, the more I felt fulfilled in my business. And the more profitable my business became.

Things you can do to grow your business your way.

Only you can know what is going to work best for you in your business, but here are some things I’d tell you from my experience:

  1. Learn the strategies of others but ask why. Decipher people’s thought process, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. This will help you know if something is right for you.
  2. Follow your own intuition. I can tell you that my gut feelings have always served me.
  3. Work with people you trust. When you are with the right people, you will feel supported and totally lit up.
  4. Don’t be afraid of doing something that hasn’t been done before. And if it has been done before, it’s proof people want it.
  5. Have fun and enjoy the journey. No one wants to buy from someone who’s not having fun! And know that the dream isn’t “out there” far away. It is right now!
